Day Three: Having a tramp, maggot packs and beer, and 'Growing Old Disgracefully' with Ulysses Club...

Jazz's sleek, jet black Nomad.

The 66 on 1 Diner. I asked the waitress if they sold their shirts, and she said "No! They're our uniforms!" Capitalism isn't the Kiwi's strong point. =)

New Zealand Nachos.

Fish and chips.

Burger, chips, and a chicken sandwich. Very tasty!

Don't know what I was talking about, but I was very interested.

Corvette and I discussing the menu.

After being drug (led) thru several odd back roads, I was convinced the leader was lost. Not to worry, he was taking the longest way possible to this eatery.

They were funnier to watch than seagulls tho, They were too lazy to fly, they just all waddled over...

These ducks were worse than seagulls. Once you fed one, quite a few showed up suddenly.

Here come the natives.

This is our maggot pack lunch. With a Coke. Six-pack Jack would be proud.

Scenery. Wharite Peak.

This would be 'yield' back home.

More of Yvette's macabe facination.

Yvette is a closet cemetary junkie. I've told people that I wasn't a cradle robber, that she was a gravedigger, but they didn't belive me. This is actually Rosie's brother.

The Koru. It's the symbol of new life and abundance in New Zealand. It is a fern frond before it unrolls.

The view from the lookout.

What the tree is really called.

A Dr.Seuss tree.

A view down the trail, showing how dense the jungle is.

Yvette found an opening in the trunk of a large tree, but she wouldn't go in. Big chicken...

A view of the gorge from a bit higher up.

Yvette found a seat on one of the epiphytes.

The ferns get very large!

There are large beautiful ferns everywhere.

This epiphyte has grown over a large rock. There is moss everywhere, so everything is green.

One of the many staircases.

The trail is magnificently built and maintained. It is administered by the Department of Conservation, and maintained by Periodic Detention Workers. (Community service)

Yvette and our native guide.

Quite the engineering for a subway.

The information board for where we are going.

The underpass entrance to cross the highway.

Manawatu Gorge.

We are going to a bit of tramping today.

Rosie and Jazz. Without the hospitality of these two wonderful people, this trip would not have happened...
