Day Seven: Rotorua to Tauranga via the Coromandel Peninsula

Toa's house.

A few birds looking for handouts.

Group Photo. Me, Corvette, Mac, Linda, Karen and Alan.

Fresh Fish and Chips. These were the best fish and chips I have ever had. The batter was light and extremely delicious, and the fish was 'caught today' fresh.
Unbelievably good

Toa and Blondie

Mac and Linda at fishermans wharf.

Back to scenery and any buildings that grab Yvette's attention.

This railway was the end result of one man's desire to replant the native trees. Barry Brickell originally started the train to retrieve wood for his kiln and clay for his pots. The tracks grew and grew and now this area is a conservatory.

A bus outside of Driving Creek Railway and Pottery.

Toa misplaced his keys... We found them in this trash bin. =)

I gained a friend by feeding this fellow. He patiently waited for more.

The town of Coromandel

The Hauraki Gulf

He's still there...

A box car house.

How many VROC'ers are needed to read a map.

Alan (Toa) with his mobile convienence store.

Taking a break

A mini trash truck caught Corvette's attention.

These houses are all made of old boxcars. Some are just a single boxcar, others are multiple boxcars with additions.

These trees are Norfolk Pines. They grow so perfectly I thought they were cell towers when I first saw them.

Lots of corners. Enough corners to make the Dragon seem tame.

The Firth of Thames

Corvette like flowers. We have lots of pictures of flowers.

The town of Te Aroha (The Love)

Lots of single lane bridges on the back roads.

Beauty abounds.

Corvette was impressed by the road surface.

Whikicamoocow falls (Wairere Falls)

This guy kept following us. We tried several times to lose him but his tenacity was impressive!

I found the hedges facinating.

Prime Hobbit country! Hobbiton was only 20 miles away.

A straight section in NZ is as rare as rocking horse poo.

Fitzgerald Glade

The only rock for miles, and it has an advert on it.

New Zealand is such a polite place.

And baked beans!

They serve spagetti for breakfast over here!

Breakfast pictures Sherm!

Lake Rotorua

Today started out bright and early with a beautiful blue sky. Jazz came by the cabin and told us the roof was on fire, so we got up and going about 10 minutes later. We went and had breakfast by the lake at a nice little cafe. After that we headed up the coastline to the Coromandel Peninsula. We travelled by the most beautiful dales, over rolling hills and up the very curvy coastline. Jazz let us ride the 1600 Nomad today, and I really enjoyed riding the big cruiser. It made me very reminiscent of my Nomad. The views were spectacular. This part of NZ is too beautiful for words. At one point Toa told us that we were only 20 miles from Hobbiton, so the area was prime hobbit habitat. We had lunch at the town of Coromandel and headed down the other side of the Peninsula. More stunning views of Ocean, and many more twisty roads following the coastline. Toa on his Burgman sets a lively pace, and I often fell behind. He's a good sort tho, and would wait up for me. We finally arrived in Tauranga, where Alan lives. He took all of us to Fishermans Wharf for Fish N Chips, and they were the absolutely best fish n chips I have ever had. (Yes Sherm, we took a picture). Right now we are sitting at Toa and Blondie's house, socializing and drinking Tui beer...
