Day Five: Tourists drying out in Rotorua

The Cultural Theater promotional poster.

Each little fish is made of metal with paua (abalone) shell inserts.

Some of the beautiful wall decorations.

The stage was very impressive. There was water running down behind each of the alcoves making the ladies depicted in each one seem to dance.

The War dance.

The stick games. They tossed those rods back and forth.

The performance.

Our hostess, Toni.

There was a fantastic buffet. Except some of the food looked back at you...

Mac, Toa and Blondie.

Jazz, Barb and Sag.

The white warrior greeted us as we entered.

The Heritage Hotel.

These are kumara. They are related to sweet potatoes and yams.

They call their shopping carts 'trundlers'.

A rest stop at an Irish Pub. Shopping is hard work, dontcha know.

Bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with a mince and cheese maggot pack.

Yvette's ham and cheese sandwich with a slice of apple slice and a chicken and veggie maggot pack.

A bacon, egg and cheese panini with a fruit cup and a flat white.

Jazz on special.

Group photo in the Rotorua town square. Clockwise from me is Blondie, Jazz, Yvette, Toa and Mac.

Jazz being onery.

The Rotorua town square.

A display case full of maggot packs. (Meat pies)

A picture for Sherm. Actually, we have gotten lots of pictures for Sherm, enough to make a food picture blog. We do enjoy taking pictures for Sherm. =)

Today started out gloomy, but it's not raining. With the chance of rain possible, we have decided to do some shopping. Ian MacDonald (Mac) showed up to welcome us. He, Toa, Jazz, Blondie, Yvette and myself headed down to downtown Rotorua and hit all the souvenier shops. Before we left, Toa took me to a local cycle dealership and I bought some goggles in case it rained again. At one point we ran into Steve Gunn (Sag) and his wife. It's a small world when you go to New Zealand to meet a bloke from Oregon.
After shopping we headed back to the cabins and consumed more beer. For the nights entertainment we headed to the Heritage Hotel and the Pohutu Cultural Theater. This event included a Maori cultural show and a fantastic buffet dinner. We have some great shots for Sherm, that I will post later. The evening was greatly enjoyed, then we headed back to the cabins for more socializing.
