My sweetie-bird
Most of the birds were very good at hiding, but we did find a few.

This looks like a tree, but the actual tree is gone. This is a parasite that grows around the tree and eventually kills it, leaving a hollow shell as the tree decomposes.
The redwoods dwarf a native tree.
Jazz and a Redwood. The trees were imported from the Oregon coast, and they thrive here.
Eels...
If I encountered these things while swimming, I'd never swim again. The locals catch and eat them! Uggh. These are probably 4-5 ft long.
Baby kiwi
Also not alive...
Not a live Kiwi, but we could use flashes.
A live kiwi in it's natural habitat! They have the day/night cycle reversed so the bird is active during the day. This one actually came right up to the glass so we could watch it search for food. Flash photography is not allowed, but Jazz managed to get this snapshot.
Mt Bruce National Wildlife Center
A slide made of an old trainer plane! In the park at Pahiatua
The Tui Brewery. An excellent beer that puts Coors and Bud to shame.
The greens are so vivid, they are spectacular.
We crossed the Puketoi range, here we are close to the top
More scenery.
Except a bit bigger...
These grasses (toitoi) look just like some that grow in the plains of the US.
Sherm Pics: Lunch! Rolls and a beer.
Paparazzi has been busy!
From the stealth-o-cam.
Talked Yvette into joining me
Just have to explore

Ton's of scenery today.

Sherm Pics: A wonderful homemade breakfast
Day Ten and we are going to go visit the place where Jazz left Kilo at Waihi Falls. We will be taking the car, as there are a lot of gravel roads to travel. We are then going to Mount Bruce National Wildlife Center to see if we can spot a Kiwi. Jazz took a wrong turn somewhere, and we ended up rally racing a bit longer than was planned. We got to the Wildlife center an hour before it closed, and a half hour after they have a bird feeding that draws the local birds from miles and miles surrounding the place. Oh well, it was still very interesting.
